BACKGROUND:
Daphne was a huntress and wanted nothing to do with love or marriage. To the dismay of her father, the river god Peneus, she thwarted all suitors. All those connected to Olympus knew that the worst lovers were the gods; most encounters ended in tragedy for those they tried to seduce.
But Apollo saw and fell in lust with Daphne who tried to run from him but realized he was gaining fast. Daphne called for her father's help and he changed her into a beautiful laurel tree. Apollo's love did not wane; he had all his victors weave their brows with laurel leaves.

DIANA
THIS BAG: Diana was known as the virgin goddess of childbirth and women. She was one of the three maiden goddesses, along with Minerva and Vesta, who swore never to marry.
In honor of the three "maiden goddesses," The Diana shoulder bag has three forms: a shoulder bag, a clutch (when shoulder strap is removed) and a vertical bag when the attached handles are used. This versatile bag just may last forever.

BACKGROUND: "Eros" is the Greek name for the more familiar "Cupid," the wonderful god of love. Eros was Psychi's lover until she betrayed him and he left her. Without Eros, Pygmalian would have never had his Galatea and we all would not have had the loves of our lives.

BACKGROUND: The Mitza is also named after a friend who now lives on Peloponnese, the peninsula that includes Sparta and Olympus. She owns a bath shop and sells fragrant stuff of all kinds.

THIS BAG: I usually make the Mikalis in a thick, sturdy leather as pictured. However, it can be made in any leather that you want. The Mikalis pictured is a medium brown oil-dyed leather making it water resistant.

BACKGROUND: Mikalis is a friend who lives in Athens and drives a taxi, taking his life in his hands daily (much more crazy than New York). This bag is as tough as Mikalis.

The Nikos I
THIS BAG: The Nikos I allows a lot of creativity to go into the bag's flap. Pictured are a few choices: the flap of the white bag on the bottom is lined in red leather with a magnetic snap and a double strap of red and white leather and is sewn with red thread - can you say "Valetine's Day?" The red, white and blue Nikos also has a magnetic snap.

BACKGROUND: Nikos taught me this unique method of designing and making completely handsewn leather bags. I know of no other American using this method of handsewing soft leather bags. Nikos is an artist in leather whom I greatly admire, and he is a good and true friend.

BACKGROUND As mentioned above, Eros was the beautiful Greek god of love (sex, really). His beauty was so great that he did not want his lover Psyche to see him since she may have been harmed by his overwhelming beauty. She defied him and stole a glance while he slept, so he left her. OK so he was also a bit fickle.

THIS BAG:  The Yeros shoulder bag is the same as the Eros I with strap except that it has a flap instead of a zipper. So, you can choose from a wide range of flap designs; you can get some ideas from the Nikos I photo above.

BACKGROUND: The Yeros is sort of named after me; the Greek word transliterated as Yeros means "old man" and I am certainly that! In Greece, the word "Yeros" is used just as we use "old man" but is also used as a term of "endearment" among friends.

THE BAG:
          The basic pattern for this classy bag is called Marge (see background below). The bag has a larger, 3” gusset and measures 10” wide x 6” tall. The double-thick flap and shoulder strap have an acid-washed hair-on leather that provides a really unique look.
          I added a cell phone pocket on the back using the acid-washed hair-on leather. I also added a buckle to the shoulder strap, so it can fit you perfectly.

BACKGROUND:
Although most of my bags are named after Greek gods and heroes, the basic pattern for this bag was created by my apprentice, Julia, and was named after her sister, one of the early victims of Covid.

THE BOX:
          The basic pattern for this box is called Noula (see background below). The box is 5½” square and 4” tall. It is completely lined with goat skin which extends to the outside maintaining its natural edge. The inside of the lid is also lined; the top has a hole with a “puff” of goat skin trying to escape! The box is dyed with three shades of brown. It is finished off with a couple coats of leather balm and wax.
BACKGROUND:
          Noula is a heroine of Greece. Okay, maybe not, but she is a dear friend I’ve known for more than 50 years. She’s just a little bit crazy (hence “dear friend”).

THIS BAG: This crazy bag began with a pattern I call Bouboulina (see background below).  I added a cell phone pocket on the back and covered it with goat skin which I had dyed with a special spray to match some of the holes in the skin.
          For the front, I lined two large pieces of skin with three shades of blue and dyed a portion of the larger skin with swipes of black.
          I added a hanging pocket to the inside using a lighter-colored leather, so the pocket is easier to find and use.
          All the straps are double or triple lined and handsewn. The closure strap is triple thick with cut outs in the black leather to expose three shades of blue. It is finished off with a magnetic snap.
          There are four pieces to the shoulder straps; each piece is double thick and handsewn. The buckle allows the shoulder strap to be adjusted to your preferences.
SIZE: The bag is 12” wide x 151/2” tall x 2” deep

BACKGROUND: Bouboulina was a heroine of the 1821 Greek Independence. Her wealth allowed her to buy a huge warship which she captained. She and her crew sank many ships of the Turkish occupiers. The Greeks won their independence, but after 400 years of occupation, there are still many remnants of Turkish culture in Greece.

THIS BAG: The basic pattern for this funky bag is called Nikos (see background below). This is a vertical-shaped bag. The brown leather is cow hide, the lighter leather is goat and there is even a bit of hair-on deer hide peeking out of a couple holes in the front
          I added a cell phone pocket on the back and another piece of goat under the flap.
          The double thick shoulder strap has goat accents at the base.

BACKGROUND:  The basic pattern of this bag is named after the man who taught me this hand sewing technique when I lived in Kerkyra, Greece, Nikos Sakalis. Nikos has a beautiful shop on Kerkyra (called Corfu by the Brits), and he still maintains this shop after 40 years.
